The article announces a new art exhibit by renowned comic book artist Alex Ross, titled "Alex Ross: Heroes and Villains," hosted at the Alex Ross Art gallery in Tysons, Virginia. The exhibit, which runs from May 11 to June 2, will feature over 100 pieces from Ross's career, including original paintings, sketches, and limited-edition prints.

The main highlight of the exhibit is a new series of hyper-realistic portraits of iconic DC characters. These portraits, including Superman ("Man of Steel"), The Joker, and Harley Quinn ("Mad Love"), are designed to capture the essence of the characters by presenting them against a simple, dark background, making them appear as real people. The Joker portrait is a direct homage to Brian Bolland's iconic cover for The Killing Joke.

While the new portraits are a centerpiece, the exhibition covers the breadth of Ross's work, featuring pieces of other major DC characters like Batman and Wonder Woman, as well as Marvel heroes like Captain America and the Human Torch. Alex Ross himself will be present for the opening reception on May 11.
