Alan Cumming Says Nightcrawler Makeup in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Got Down to 90 Minutes

Actor Alan Cumming, during an appearance on the web series Hot Ones, debunked a long-standing rumor about his time playing Nightcrawler in X2: X-Men United. He revealed that the extensive blue makeup and prosthetics actually took about 2.5 hours to apply, not the widely believed 8-10 hours.

He contrasted this with the makeup for a character nicknamed "Doomsday" he played on the TV show The Good Wife, which took four hours – 90 minutes longer than Nightcrawler. Cumming also mentioned that his makeup for Son of the Mask took about 3.5 hours.

Beyond the application time, he recalled challenges with the Nightcrawler costume, including the blue makeup staining his skin, the difficulty of managing the tail, and particularly the painful yellow contact lenses.
