On this episode, I interview the Team Antigua Island Girls. They successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean and achieved second place in the Atlantic Challenge in 2018 and now are about to embark on the Pacific Challenge on June 12th crossing the Pacific Ocean. I interviewed them as they are preparing for the challenge in Monterey Bay, California. The Team Antigua Island Girls is comprised of Elvira Bell, Christal Clashing, Samara Emmanuel, Kevinia Francis, and Junella King. Collectively, they are four athletes and a skipper. Team Antigua Island Girls have set their sights on being the top female contenders and among the top five overall. They are being put through their paces on the water by the tough taskmaster and coach Eli Fuller and in the gym by personal trainers, including Kevinia.
Team Antigua Island Girls became the first all-female Caribbean team to complete the grueling Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge and the first all-black team to row across the Atlantic. Their journey began in December 2018 in La Gomora, Canary Islands, and after rowing for 47 days, the team touched their home soil as champions. While the third Antiguan team to compete and complete the Atlantic challenge, the Team Antigua Island Girls’ voyage and homecoming stood apart from previous returns.
The women have selected Cottage of Hope as their charity. Cottage of Hope is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 that houses and/or serves girls who have been abused, neglected or orphaned.
Download YB Races from your App Store and select World’s Toughest Row. This is how you’ll track the fleet once they start the challenge on June 12th.
