Say Hello

Join me on an introspective journey as we explore the profound concept of being a good person in the latest episode of Navigate the Day. Inspired by the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius, we delve into the idea that our ultimate vocation is to cultivate virtue and live in accordance with moral principles. This insightful episode challenges us to evaluate our own actions and reflect upon our role in the world.

In today's journal prompt, we ponder the question: "If my vocation is to be a good person, am I doing a good job?" With honesty and vulnerability, I share my own struggles and self-reflections. I confess that I've been overly focused on my own worries and circumstances, neglecting the bigger picture. It's a humbling realization that there are countless individuals facing far greater challenges, prompting me to shift my perspective and appreciate the blessings in my life.

Defining what it truly means to be a good person proves to be a complex task. The moral compass varies from person to person, and what may be considered virtuous by one could be seen as evil by another. I've come to recognize that my abstinence from alcohol alone does not define my goodness. Instead, I strive to approach others with compassion, understanding that their actions are often driven by underlying pain or struggles. This newfound empathy extends not only to them but also to myself, allowing me to be more considerate in my interactions.

However, the journey towards being a good person is riddled with obstacles. In my romantic relationship, I find myself wrestling with my own shortcomings. I grapple with forgetfulness, impulsiveness, and a lack of control over destructive thoughts. My earnest efforts may not always be enough, and miscommunications and conflicts arise. It's disheartening to witness the toll it takes on my partner, who becomes exhausted by the emotional energy required to navigate my mental health challenges.

Yet, despite the difficulties, the obligation to be a good person remains. I acknowledge that excuses and uncertainties should not deter me from striving for goodness. The gray areas and uncertainties may cloud my understanding, but I refuse to let them become excuses for inaction. Instead, I commit to deepening my understanding of those around me, cultivating empathy, and learning from their diverse experiences.

Join me in this episode of Navigate the Day as we embark on a journey of self-discovery, embracing the responsibility of being a good person. Through introspection, compassion, and a willingness to learn, we can navigate life's challenges and find greater fulfillment in our pursuit of virtue.

Thank you for listening and joining me on my journey of self-discovery!
