Say Hello

In today's episode of "Navigate The Day," we dive into the topic of measuring ourselves against others. As Marcus Aurelius said, "Take a good hard look at people’s ruling principle, especially of the wise, what they run away from and what they seek out." It's easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others, especially those who seem to have achieved more success than us. But it's important to remember that we all have our own unique paths and goals.

Personally, I've been guilty of measuring myself against others in terms of financial success, but I've realized that this isn't a healthy way to measure progress. Instead, I want to focus on internal possessions, like wisdom and values. One person who I admire and want to learn more from is Gary Vaynerchuk. I appreciate the messages he puts out into the world and the values he holds, such as kindness and empathy.

But I also recognize that it's important to not just measure myself against one person or role model. I need to sit down with myself and figure out what kind of person I want to be and what kind of life I want to live. From there, I can narrow in on more rulers to measure myself against and strive to be like. This will bring me closer to being my authentic self.

Another subject that I am particularly interested in is stress and how to handle it better. Stress affects us all and it's important to learn from those who have figured out how to live with it without allowing it to affect their internal conditions. This is what draws me towards stoic teachings. I've realized that I can't eliminate stress, but I can find ways to work with it instead of against it. Moving forward, I plan on paying more attention to what those I want to be more alike are doing, and equally as important, what they aren't doing, to see if there are any behaviors that are stunting my growth.

In conclusion, it's important to remember that we all have our own unique paths and goals and it's not healthy to compare ourselves to others in terms of external possessions. We should focus on internal possessions, like wisdom and values, and find role models and rulers to measure ourselves against. It's also important to pay attention to how we handle stress and learn from others who have mastered it.
