Say Hello

In this episode of "Navigate The Day", I delve into the question of what it truly means to prize something. Marcus Aurelius's words in Meditations, specifically 6.16.2b-4a, have been ringing in my head lately. He suggests that by limiting our actions or inactions to only what is keeping with the needs of our own preparation, we will find the only thing that is truly valuable.

I have always been obsessed with self-improvement and education, but I find myself feeling envious of others who have external possessions or status. Despite years of trying different methods, such as studying, meditating, and even using drugs and alcohol, I still can't shake these feelings. I also question the idea that by focusing on inner development, I will be able to live in harmony with others and align myself with the natural order of the world.

I feel like my personal development hasn't really changed anything, and that I'm just filling empty space with activities. I know I need to take genuine action, and focus on my goals and aspirations. I also need to reframe my values and interests, and let go of the things that no longer serve me. And I want to test out the idea of positive chaos and the law of attraction, maybe by doing random acts of kindness.

In conclusion, Marcus is trying to teach us that by prioritizing one's own personal development and self-respect, one will be able to avoid feelings of envy and jealousy towards others, and instead find contentment and satisfaction in one's own progress. I need to remember to check that what I want is of true importance and not in the grip of externals that are out of my control.
