Welcome back to Navigate the Day! Today’s episode is all about testing your impressions, inspired by a powerful quote from Epictetus.
Epictetus advises us to challenge our initial impressions and examine them using the rules and principles we have learned, with the goal of approaching our perceptions with a rational and objective mindset, rather than being swayed by our initial emotional responses.
The journal prompt for today asks, “Can I take a step back and test my impressions? What would I find if I did?”
As I reflect on this prompt, I realize that while I am eager to question myself, I sometimes fall into a loop of not trusting my own judgment, leading to inaction. However, by using my circle of control as a tool for evaluating situations, I can narrow down what I have to worry about and respond with rationality and a well-thought-out plan.
Taking a step back and reflecting on our thoughts and emotions in the present moment can help us become more aware and make more informed decisions. However, I also realize that I may not always be critical enough of my own beliefs, assumptions, and perceptions.
Ultimately, by continuing to educate ourselves and cultivate a solid character, we can navigate towards a more kind, robust, and fulfilling life. So let’s test our impressions and embrace the multitude of perspectives and possibilities available to us.
Thanks for tuning in to Navigate the Day!
