2022 October 22 - NGC 1499: The California Nebula

In today's image, we see the California Nebula also known by its catalog designation of NGC 1499. This is an example of an emission nebula and glows because of the hydrogen gas within the nebula excited by the ultraviolet radiation from a nearby hot star.
