Dasakam 018 - Sloka 02

पापोऽपि क्षितितलपालनाय वेन: पौराद्यैरुपनिहित: कठोरवीर्य: ।

सर्वेभ्यो निजबलमेव सम्प्रशंसन् भूचक्रे तव यजनान्ययं न्यरौत्सीत् ॥२॥

Pāpo'pi kṣititalapālanāya venaḥ

Paurādyairupanihitaḥ kaṭhoravīryaḥ ।

Sarvebhyo nijabalameva sampraśaṁsan

Bhūcakre tava yajñānānyayaṁ nyarautsīt ॥2॥

பாபோ'பி க்ஷிதிதலபாலநாய வேந:

பௌராத்யைருபநிஹித: கடோரவீர்ய: ।

ஸர்வேப்யோ நிஜபலமேவ ஸம்ப்ரசன்சன்

பூசக்ரே தவ யஜ்ஞாநாந்யயம் ந்யரோத்ஸீத் ॥2॥

पाप:-अपिthough evil mindedक्षिति-तल-पालनायfor the governance of the countryवेन: पौराद्यै:-उपनिहित:by the leading citizens, Vena was made the kingकठोर-वीर्य:being of very great prowessसर्वेभ्य: निज-बलम्-एवto all his might aloneसम्प्रशंसन्boasting aboutभूचक्रेall over the earthतव यजनानि-sacrifices to Theeअयं न्यरौत्सीत्prohibited

Though evil minded, Vena who was of great prowess was made the king by the leading citizens for the governance of the country. He always boasted of his strength and prohibited the practice of all forms of Thy worship and sacrifices.
