गदापाणौ दैत्ये त्वमपि हि गृहीतोन्नतगदो नियुद्धेन क्रीडन् घटघटरवोद्घुष्टवियता ।
रणालोकौत्सुक्यान्मिलति सुरसङ्घे द्रुतममुं निरुन्ध्या: सन्ध्यात: प्रथममिति धात्रा जगदिषे ॥४॥
Gadā-pāṇau daitye tvam api hi gṛhītonnata-gadoniyuddhena krīḍan ghaṭa-ghaṭa-ravodghuṣṭa-viyatā।raṇālokautsukyān milati sura-saṅghe drutam amuṁnirundhyāḥ sandhyātaḥ prathamam iti dhātrā jagadiṣe॥
கதாபாணௌ தைத்யே த்வமபி ஹி க்ருஹீதோன்னதகதோநியுத்தேந க்ரீடந் கடகடரவோத்குஷ்டவியதா।ரணாலோகௌத்ஸுக்யான் மிலதி ஸுரஸங்கே த்ருதமமும்நிருந்த்யா: ஸந்த்யாத: ப்ரதமமிதி தாத்ரா ஜகதிஷே॥
गदापाणौ दैत्येthe Asura armed with a maceत्वम्-अपि हिThou also indeedगृहीत-उन्न्त-गद:flourishing a mighty maceनियुद्धेन क्रीडन्by a dual (fight) as though sporting (the clashing of maces)घट-घट-रव-उद्घुष्ट-वियताresounding the sky with fierce soundरण-आलोक-औत्सुक्यात्-with the eagerness to see the fightमिलति सुरसङ्घेwhen the hosts of gods assembledद्रुतम्-अमुम् निरुन्ध्या:quickly kill this (Asura)सन्ध्यात: प्रथमम्-before eveningइति धात्रा जगदिषेthus Thou were requested by Brahmaa
As the Asura was armed with a mace, Thou too flourished a mighty mace and sportingly gave him battle. As the clang of the clashing maces resounded in the sky, the hosts of gods assembled eagerly to see the dual. Brahmaa cried out requesting Thee to kill the Asura before nightfall.
