The dreaded in-laws. If we are not careful, our in-laws can run our marriages. We have all heard the stories.


"Oh, but it's my mom. Let's just do it this once." My mom wants us to do this.


No. We are committed to this relationship, and sometimes we need to be tough with our own parents.


We need to set the boundaries that keep our parents out of the relationship we are building here.


Now that’s not to say they can not be a part of your lives. Now sometimes that’s necessary. Removing toxic in-laws from a relationship can be a good thing. But for most of us, setting expectations and commitment to our spouse will go a long way.


Explaining that this is our marriage and we are doing it this way is ok. Seeking advice from family is ok, but not at the expense of your spouse and your relationship. Complaining to your parents about your spouse does not lead to growth and continued commitment.
