Whether you are a developer writing code, or someone who is about to launch a new open source project, a basic understanding of open source licenses is a must. If you are launching a new project, it is even more crucial to understand the different licenses and pick the one that will serve your new community the best. When in doubt, always consult a lawyer!

And remember, all open source licenses are permissive, however, some also come with obligations.
