It is noteworthy that Paul did not start the church in Rome. The longest of Paul’s epistles was addressed to the believers there, whom Paul hoped to visit, “that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end, ye may be established” (Romans 1:11). As we have learned from our studies of the Ephesian church, assemblies must be built on the proper foundation under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

 If God’s people are fickle, they will forsake truth for 'another' more liberal gospel, as did the churches of Galatia. Paganism was rampant in Rome and seeped into the church. Paul warned, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 18:1).
