The Bible teaches that "They that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give God a ransom for him: (Psalm 49:6-7). In short, no one can buy themself salvation.
The Book of Job presents an epitaph of human life: "Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow and continueth not" (Job 14:1-2)
