On today’s podcast, I speak with Mika Perry, a Mom of three girls (ages 4 - 14), a lifestyle blogger, a Podcast Host of the Good to be Home Podcast which she co-hosts with her husband and a former Professional Organizer. Mika is an incredibly creative and talented woman who initially found her passion for organizing through her love of being creative within any sized space. Once she became a Mom, organization became something that helped to change the outcome of everything she was doing; the more organized she was, the more the overwhelm would start to dissolve and she could feel in control of her life again. Implementing these techniques in her life, led her to wanting to help others implement them in theirs as well. We talk all things organization and overcoming hardships in marriage in today’s episode - keep reading to find out more about Mika’s story of courageousness through self-development work and routine.Mika shares that organization for each person looks different. It’s tailored to their lifestyle and what causes the most overwhelming for them personally. In general, she does recommend to start out with shifting your mindset; let go of the limiting beliefs that organization is too hard or too time-consuming or too expensive for example. These are all excuses holding you back from moving forward. The second is to start small. Instead of thinking about organizing an entire space, focus on small things within the room; what specifically in these rooms is frustrating you most right now, and start there. For example, start with organizing a drawer or a small shelf in the room. Really inexpensive small changes can make a big difference in the way you feel.In 2012, in the midst of holding their 2-month old baby girl, Mika found out her husband was having an affair. In this moment, she shares she felt like the rug got pulled from underneath her. She also realized that no matter what conspired following those moments, her life would be different from then on. In the beginning of trying to navigate through the situation, she talks about feeling like she had no guidance of what she should do in the situation because it was shameful and she felt embarrassed to talk about it, and there was also not a large community (like there is now on social media) to reach out to for support. She goes on to say that it’s still not easy for them every day, but it taught them to be honest with themselves. If we’re not able to be honest with ourselves, we will eventually get to the point of pain and fear - and then worse, not knowing who we are any more so we run and turn to unhealthy habits to hide the struggle. Investing in working on themselves as individuals and as a couple to come back to their faith and their truth is what helped them move forward.Mika has two courses which are available for purchase at anytime!
