In October 2014, the RiSE Lantern Festival was celebrated for the first time in the United States. Traditionally, this religious festival happens once a year in Chiang Mai, Thailand. But with the help of the Bureau Land Management and engineers to design lanterns with ultra-specific burn rates, the RiSE Lantern Festival was born. In this episode, you will hear why people travelled all the way to the Mojave Desert just to set paper lanterns of light into the night sky.
