Andrew Tate has been everywhere in the media recently for his mysogynistic views on women and girls. Scratching beneath the surface poses a deeper question; is he himself the issue, or part of a much deeper collective problem surrounding the societal expectations of men and women throughout our history?

I speak on canalisation, which refers to the way in which parents channel children’s interests in activities or toys in conjunction with gender. This is one of the many subconscious ways we have been conditioned to create differences in men and women from a very young age, so that when we get older, abuse, marginalisation and sexism is normalised to the point we don’t even acknowledge it.

I am in no way excusing or appropriating the comments Andrew Tate has made on his platform, nor the devastating impact this could potentially have on the younger generation of boys, I just think it’s interesting to  realise he is just one man amongst many with the same views and ideology of women, the only difference being his platform that allows us to criticise him for it.
