Walking for Firefighters and Teaching the Homeless

Aug. 31, 2025 ~ Joe Warne, founder and president Neighbors of Neighbors United, is hosting its seventh annual #WalkForTheRed, a significant charity walk set to take place from Sept. 4-7. This year’s walk will span from Shelby Township Station 1, to Cascade Township Fire Station 2, with over 26 dedicated walkers participating in this event aimed at supporting Michigan firefighting families impacted by cancer.

Daniel N. Jones, executive director of the Haven Rest Rescue Mission of Battle Creek, joins Michigan Voices. Established in 1956 by Don and Wilma Chalfant as "The Haven of Rest Rescue Mission," The Haven originally provided meals, shelter, and the gospel message to homeless men. The Haven has expanded to offer many services to the ever-changing homeless population, who need help learning social self-sufficiency and productivity.
