Episode 59 - "You are different from them and they are afraid of anything different. And what people are afraid of, they try to destroy." "EX-TER-MI-NATE!" It's been 60 years since the launch of the phenomenally popular Doctor Who (pretty much to the minute if you're watching this episode when it first goes out). That means it's also 60 years this December since audiences got their first glimpse of the world's most terrifying sink plunger, and were introduced to an infamous, iconic sci-fi monster: the dreaded Daleks. To celebrate both of these milestones we're looking at a familiar story with some unfamiliar changes for the big screen: 1965's 'Dr. Who and the Daleks'. Mike, DK and returning guest Will Templar join the human scientist named Doctor Who, his granddaughters Barbara and Suzy, and hapless comic relief Ian as they board TARDIS and land on the distant planet of Skaro. There will be discussions on Dalekmania, origins, comparisons with the original TV serial, the changes and impact of Amicus' cinematic transfer and personal thoughts on it. As always there will be a critical eye applied, the audience's opinion shared and the movie scored out of five stars. And immediately after this episode first concludes (more or less) at 7:30pm you can switch to BBC4 and compare for yourself with a brand new cut-down colour restoration of that very first Dalek TV story. Happy 60th Doctor Who, may the Whoniverse shine ever brighter and that blue box take us to even wilder places beyond our imagination. Music by Timeless Journey.
