Welcome back to another captivating episode of The Matt Brown Show! In this unique edition, Matt Brown takes center stage to share his personal story of failure in the "Secret to Fail" series.
Delving into his story of failure, Matt takes us back to when he founded his previous company, Digital Kungfu, in South Africa. Initially serving a diverse range of clients, Matt realized the potential in narrowing their focus to the technology space. Inspired by renowned author Christopher Lockhead and his books "Play Bigger" and "Niche Down," Map took the leap and successfully carved out a niche for Digital Kungfu in the technology industry.
With an unbeatable operating model, Digital Kungfu thrived, expanding its reach from Cape Town to Cairo and even the United Arab Emirates. Revenue doubled every year for three consecutive years, and the company established strong relationships with major distributors. However, as growth opportunities within existing relationships diminished, the company had to explore international markets.
In the midst of these hardships, Matt made the difficult decision to sell the business and relocate to the United States. Unfortunately, the timing was unfavorable, and selling the company became increasingly challenging due to declining revenues. Despite his best efforts, Matt had to accept the closure of the business, leaving employees jobless and himself and his wife facing the daunting task of rebuilding their lives.
