To truly understand Old Testament prophecy, we need to consider the historical context in which it occurred. Much of the prophetic activity recorded in the Old Testament took place during times of national crisis.

For instance, the 8th-century prophets like Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, and Micah ministered during the period leading up to the fall of the Northern Kingdom of Israel to Assyria in 722 BC. Their messages warned of impending doom if the nation didn't return to God, but also offered hope beyond judgment.
