Let’s talk about self-care. In education, the term has been confused with the word recovery—and that's a problem. We must distinguish between the two and start taking back the positive aspects of self-care versus the recovery process.

Self-care is the practice of taking care of one's physical, mental, and emotional health. It can include exercising, eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and taking time to relax and unwind. The goal of self-care is to maintain your overall well-being and to lead a happier, healthier life.

Recovery is the process of returning to a normal state of health, function, or strength. It can refer to physical, mental, or emotional recovery, where the goal is to restore an individual. When we talk about recovery, it's more focused on healing rather than just being well-rested or happy.

Self-care is not a process like recovery is—it's a lifestyle choice. It's choosing to take care of yourself before you can care for anyone else. Self-care means making time for yourself, setting boundaries, and allowing yourself to rest and recharge. So let's start reclaiming this term! Let's ensure that when we talk about self-care, we're talking about how we can nurture ourselves and take care of our whole selves (minds and bodies included!).
