The mental load (aka emotional load or cognitive labor or worry work) is the invisible labor that it takes to manage a household and if it's not going unnoticed, it's being undervalued. Recognizing when we're taking on more than our fair share of the emotional/mental burden is the first step in recognizing why we're so exhausted, but then we need to do something about it... so it doesn't eat us alive.
