counterwill is an important developmental function, but it can be a hindrance to healthy relationship develeopment. it's important to recognize it is an instinct, albeit a frustrating one. so remember when dealing with counterwill, it's important not to ignore the rebellion but also important not to force control. instead, we should pay attention + focus on our attachment in the relationship, instead.
