I had such a great time talking about pigeons, I figured we could have some fun discussing other animals. Today, specifically, we are talking about one of my favorites but the chronically underrated “bonobos”. I’ve only ever really thought about bonobos during a college anthropology class, and then they kinda fell off the radar for me. Chimpanzees won the pop culture and research award and left bonobos in the dust. I’ve read there is a vested interest in making sure that we (the general public) learn about chimp culture more than bonobo culture because it would provide us with support and e vidence that we could do better as a society, and at this point, knowing what I know about bonobos (and society) - it would not surprise me if that were the case - but I digress. But contrary to your 3rd grade science teacher’s beliefs: humans closest relative is not just the chimpanzee.
