Episode 9: Real Talk About Balancing Family & Entrepreneurship with Lindsey Henry

Balancing marriage, kids, and multiple small businesses can be a rollercoaster ride, and no one knows this better than my wife, Lindsey Henry. For all of our 19 years of marriage, we have been a small business family, owning nearly a dozen businesses during that time, though that was never the initial goal. A couple years ago, Lindsey took the leap to be an entrepreneur herself, when she opened LuLu’s Toy Co, a specialty toy store in Downtown Marion.

Lindsey shares her story from being a Kindergarten teacher, to being a full time mom, to the whirlwind decision of opening a toy store in 2022.  Learn how growing up in a family business environment and being thrust into managing a restaurant during COVID have shaped her approach to running LuLu’s Toy Co, and helped her be ready for the unexpected.

Finally, we tackle the real life complexities of merging family life with business ownership. We unpack how involving our children in various business tasks has enriched their learning and brought us closer as a family, as well as sharing practical advice for maintaining work-life balance, from setting non-negotiable family times to creating clear boundaries between work and personal life. We discuss the unique dynamics of raising children in a small business household, the immense joy of shared accomplishments, and the importance of communication and support in nurturing both our family and entrepreneurial ventures.
