Greetings everyone

As we move into the third week of lockdown, there has been much in the news about the kind of environment that will await us when the government decides it finally has control of the pandemic.

This week, I’m touching on the Plan B conversations we need to be having with our children and young people. I’ve been worried about talk from government about how the land will lie after the pandemic. The talk has been ramping up plans for everyone to pay for the cost of the pandemic and whenever I hear that, I know that in real terms, this means that Black people in the west, including Black young people, are going to pay more. Now, this isn’t just a question of paying more financially. It’s also about being on the receiving end of the worst economic and employment outcomes, the pandemic has to offer.

So this got me thinking about how this will impact us and our children; and, also, what conversations we need to be having with our children, to help them get ahead of whatever the ruling elite have in mind for them, or not – because both can be true and both can be detrimental.
