In this episode I talk with Britain’s most successful male mogul skier, double Olympian Hugh Hutchison, about what it takes to get to the top of your game, whether that’s in sport or any other aspect of your life.
Hugh has had a great career, including rising to Senior Captain in the Royal Engineers, becoming one of Britain’s best winter sports athletes, reaching two Olympic Games finals in the 1990s; being a member of the British Olympic Association, working as a pundit and commentator for Sky Sports, BBC, Eurosport and the Olympic Broadcasting Services, and being a motivational speaker on the circuit, through to commercial roles for Reebok, Sport NZ, Fairfax NZ, and later working with regional economic development agencies. His career has seen him travel and work across the globe and almost all of it was unplanned!
Hugh provides insight into what has driven him to lead a successful life, primarily wanting to do what he enjoys and fulfils him, rather than chasing money. Not knowing exactly what it was he wanted to do in life, he knew more about what he didn’t want to do, and looked at every other opportunity that came his way, often just stepping into it and saying ‘yes’.
As Hugh stated in the interview, ‘You get a bit of time, and you might as well give it all a go!’
