The title of this episode is something this guest is learning to do and is possibly something we should all strive to do more. Paul Russell is the former drummer of one of NZ’s most successful bands, Supergroove. He talks about balancing the ability of imagining what the future would look like to overcome fears and challenges, with learning to take time to be in the moment, which is where he is when being creative or surfing.
An NZ Music Hall of Famer, Paul discusses how his early life with a family heavily involved in church and a father who encouraged him to give anything a go, influenced him to follow his passion for creating music. It also provided him with the values that ultimately saw him make the tough decision to leave his band after years of hard work and just as things were taking off in a big way.
Paul has started and played in several bands, recently forming Midwave Breaks, and has worked with many international stars such as Lucie Silvas, Che Fu, Anika Moa, Brooke Fraser, and Daniel Bedingfield. He also had an eight-year gig with the London West End production ‘Stomp’ and, during that period, also studied and obtained a Master's Degree in Osteopathy.
Paul shares wisdom from the many lessons he’s learned from along the way. It’s a fascinating story of someone who has achieved at the highest levels in so many areas, but has remained grounded, humble, and grateful. There is definitely wisdom worth sharing in this episode. What will you take note of and apply to your own life’s work?
