Inside the compassionate lens with Leticia Valverdes

Leticia Valverdes is a prize-winning photographer whose work starts with deep listening. Published in The Telegraph, The Guardian amongst others, she’s also well-known for her community work with indigenous people, especially women and girls. Leticia’s commercial work includes personal branding for organisations and heart-led businesses in the UK and Portugal and also documenting retreats and rites of passage. 

 I particularly wanted to talk to her about the way she uses the process of image-making for healing, especially with mothers and with older women. We explored:

• How a compassionate gaze might change body image
• The effect of Tictoc and Instagram on the way we see ourselves 
• Play and magical realism in photography
• The mighty power of perimenopause to create change
