Reading is so crucial for young students. Non-phonetic approaches will cripple children before they even start. Don't be misled. All research going back a hundred years overwhelmingly supports phonics over sight-words. I think it's very important that every adult understand this fundamental choice. It's as basic as red pill versus blue pill.
