This episode features Kirsten Barnes who has been working as a mental performance consultant for 20+ years.  She has worked with Canadian national teams of Rowing, Swimming, Cycling and Women’s rugby 7s, as well as individual summer and winter athletes. Kirsten competed for Canada in rowing in the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games. She is a double Olympic Gold Medalist from the 1992 Games and World Champion in 1991 at the Rowing World Championships in both the 4- and 8+.  Born in England she returned many years later and worked as a sport psychology consultant for Lane4 Management Group in business leadership and performance consultancy from 1997-2007.  During this time as part of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, she provided sport psychology support to numerous teams, athletes, and projects in support of UK Olympic sport. Returning to Canada in 2007, Kirsten started working as a mental performance consultant for the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) in 2008.  She is now the Director of Performance Services Team for Canadian Sports Institute Pacific and provides mental performance support to the Women’s Rugby 7s National Team program and individual athletes. She is also an amazing mother and partner, and I was honored to have her on the show!
