How to ask “Where is the Main Square?” in Slovak; Sightseeing vocabulary; About the Old Town; S2 E22

Today's episode is about the Old Town and the Main Square in Bratislava. In the Slovak lesson, you’re going to learn plural of the verb byť - to be in the past tense and practice it in a short dialogue. You will also learn how to ask “Where is the Main Square?” in Slovak, and give a possible answer to it.

In the previous episode I talked about the coronation events in Bratislava. Today I’m going to talk about the Old Town and the Main Square in Bratislava. In the Slovak lesson, you’re going to learn plural of the verb byť - to be in the past tense and practice it in a short dialogue. You will also learn how to ask “Where is the Main Square?” in Slovak, and give a possible answer to it.

Slovak lesson
In the last episodes we talked only about the singular form of the verb byť - to be. Today we are are going to use the 1st, the 2nd, and the 3rd person plural.
1st  person plural: boli sme (we were) or: my sme boli
2nd person plural: boli ste (you were)  or: vy ste boli
3rd  person plural: boli (they were)       or: oni/ony boli

Dialogue:
A: Dobrý deň, susedia. Máte veľké kufre. Odchádzate?
B: Nie, prichádzame.
A: Kde ste boli?
B: Boli sme na dovolenke.
A: A kde ste boli na dovolenke?
B: Boli sme pri mori.
A: Boli ste v Bulharsku?
B: Nie, boli sme v Chorvátsku.
A: Super! Kde všade ste boli?
B: Boli sme na pláži. A to je všetko.
A: Akí boli domáci?
B: Boli veľmi milí.
A: Naozaj? Keď my sme tam boli, tak sa s nami nechceli ani rozprávať!

Konverzácia:
A: Prepáčte, hľadám hlavné námestie. (Excuse me, I’m looking for the main square.)
B: Je mi ľúto, ale ja nie som odtiaľ. (I’m sorry, I’m not from here.)
A: Rozumiem. (I understand.)
A: Prepáčte, ste odtiaľ? (Excuse me, are you from here?)
C: Áno, potrebujete pomoc? (Yes, do you need help?)
A: Áno. Kde je hlavné námestie? (Yes. Where is the main square?)
C: To je hneď za rohom, tam. (That is right around the corner, there.)
A: Ďakujem. (Thank you.)
C: Nemáte za čo. (You’re welcome.)
A: Dovidenia. (See you soon.)
B: Dovi. (See ya.)
