Today I talk about three saints; Pankrac, Servac and Bonifac that are celebrated on May 12th, 13th, 14th. In the Slovak lesson, we’re going to learn some vegetables vocabulary. You will learn how to ask “Do you want tomatoes?” in Slovak, and give a possible answer to it. At the end of this episode, you can find a story about my grandma’s vegetable garden early in spring.

In episode 14 I talked about Mother’s Day celebration. Today I want to talk about three saints  that were celebrated on May 12th, 13th, 14th. In the Slovak lesson, we’re going to learn some vegetables vocabulary. You will also learn how to ask “Do you want tomatoes?” in Slovak, and give a possible answer to it. At the end of this episode, you can find a story about my grandma’s vegetable garden early in spring.

Slovak lesson
1.     zelenina / zeleniny (vegetable / vegetables)
2.     redkvička / redkvičky (radish / radishes)
3.     cibuľa / cibule (onion / onions)
4.     cesnak / cesnaky (garlic )
5.     kapusta / kapusty (cabbage / cabbages)
6.     zemiak / zemiaky (potato / potatoes)
7.     mrkva / mrkvy (carrot / carrots)
8.     petržlen / petržleny (parsley)
9.     paradajka / paradajky (tomato / tomatoes)
10. paprika / papriky (pepper / papers)
11. uhorka / uhorky (cucumber / cucumbers)
12. šalát / šaláty (salad / salads)

Short sentences with nouns and adjectives in the nominative case:
1.     To je skorá zelenina. (This is an early [growing] vegetable.)
2.     To je sladká cibuľa. (This is a sweet onion.)
3.     Cesnak je zdravý. (Garlic is healthy.)
4.     Pečený zemiak je lepší ako varený. (A baked potato is better than a boiled one.)
5.     Mrkva a petržlen idú do polievky. (Carrot and parsley go into a soup.)

Short sentences with nouns and adjectives in the accusative case:
1.     Moja babka sadí zeleninu. (My grandma is planting/plants vegetables.)
2.     Tóno nemá rád kapustu. (Anthony doesn’t like cabbage.)
3.     Chcete (formal) paradajky? (Do you want tomatoes?)
4.     Áno, aj papriku. (Yes, peppers too.)
5.     Prosím si uhorku. (Please, can I have cucumber?)
