Guntersville Fishing Report: Post-Spawn Bite Heats Up, Trophy Bass on Offshore Ledges

Hey folks, Artificial Lure here with your Lake Guntersville fishing report for May 9, 2025.

We're looking at another beautiful day on the Big G! The weather's holding steady with those cool mornings warming into mild afternoons - perfect fishing conditions. Sunrise was about 5:47 AM this morning, and we'll see sunset around 7:42 PM, giving you plenty of daylight to get those lines wet.

Water temps have crept up slightly into the upper-60s since my report last weekend. The post-spawn pattern is really setting in now, with a lot of bass starting to move offshore toward those summer ledges. That transition is happening right on schedule, folks!

Bass fishing has been phenomenal this week. The largemouth are finishing up their spawn cycle, but you can still find some cruising the shallows, especially in the early mornings. Most of the trophy females are moving deeper now, following baitfish schools. Your best bet is targeting those grass lines in 3-8 feet of water with buzzbaits and topwater frogs during the low light hours. As the sun gets up, switch to soft plastics like Senkos, creature baits, or try slow-rolling white swim jigs along the deeper weedlines.

The northern end around Goose Pond has been absolutely on fire, with several 6+ pounders reported this week. Down south, the milfoil stretches near Seibold and Waterfront are producing consistent numbers. If you're looking for that wall-hanger, the ledges between Scottsboro and South Sauty are starting to heat up - try deep-diving crankbaits and Carolina rigs there.

Crappie fishing remains strong too! They've been stacking up around brush piles and docks, hitting minnows and small jigs consistently. The catfish bite has been steady in the lower channels - nothing fancy needed there, just some stink bait and patience.

Water clarity is generally good throughout the lake, with some slight staining in the creeks from recent rains. We don't deal with tidal swings here on Guntersville, so water levels have remained relatively stable, making navigation easy.

Two hot spots to try this weekend: First, check out the grass beds just north of the Highway 69 bridge where some monster bass have been crushing lipless cranks in shad patterns. Second, Brown's Creek has been producing limits of quality fish on Texas-rigged worms worked slowly through scattered grass.
