Artificial Lure here with your Lake Guntersville fishing report for Friday, September 5th, 2025. If you’re headed out on the water today, here’s what’s biting, where, and how to get ‘em.

The sun rose this morning right around 6:17 AM, and you can expect it to set about 7:13 PM, giving you a solid window for both morning and evening bites, with twilight hanging on until just after 8 PM. The weather’s treating us right for early September—expect a mild day, starting around 55°F and climbing to almost 70°F by afternoon. That means fish will be active, especially with a light breeze rippling those grass lines.

Now for the fish activity: Peak feeding times today should hit around 1:14 to 3:14 PM, with a minor flurry right around daybreak, roughly 7:30 to 8:30 this morning. Local guides and regulars on social media say this cooling trend after a string of hot, muggy days has bass moving shallow again, chasing shad and bluegill along the edges[Solunar Forecast]. Water clarity is good, with just a touch of stain—a perfect scenario for tempting a bite.

Largemouth bass are leading the charge, with several anglers reporting solid numbers and a handful of fish topping five pounds, especially in the mid-lake and up around North Sauty. Some folks are catching 12-15 keepers per outing, most coming off main lake grass, creek mouths, and bridge riprap. Gizzard shad schools are thick near the causeways, drawing both bass and hybrid stripers for some midday topwater action.

Now, if you’re looking to fill a cooler, crappie are starting to stage deeper around the bridge pylons and brush, with best catches coming by dropping minnows or jigs about 12-15 feet down. Folks are picking up some mixed bluegill and shellcracker along the riprap with worms or crickets too.

As for hot lures, you can’t go wrong with a *white or chartreuse spinnerbait*—Blind Squirrel Bait Co’s spinnerbaits remain a local favorite and are getting slammed by both bass and the occasional toothy critter. Lipless crankbaits like the classic Rat-L-Trap in chrome blue, and the always-reliable shaky head with a green pumpkin finesse worm, are producing well, especially when worked slow along grass edges and ledges[YouTube]. Early morning, try a Zara Spook or Pop-R over the grass for explosive topwater hits, especially where you see shad flickering.

If live bait is more your speed, big minnows rigged on a Carolina rig are scoring hefty bass and the occasional catfish, especially out by the main river channel edges[Ultimate Angler].

A couple of can’t-miss hot spots today:

- **North Sauty Creek**: Fish the mouth and flats for both bass and crappie. Grasslines here are loaded.
- **Goose Pond Area**: Loads of docks and matted grass—bass are pushing bait up shallow on sunny afternoons.
- **The Causeways (especially near Highway 69)**: Shad are stacked up, and everything from bass to hybrids to blue cats are gorging. Toss a shad-imitating swimbait, or drift live shad/minnows for a shot at a mixed bag.

Word is, with this weather pattern and the first hints of fall on the air, the bite’s only getting better. As always, be courteous out there—boat traffic picks up as the weather cools, and everybody wants a piece of Lake Guntersville’s magic.
