As of October 17, 2024, Lake Guntersville in Alabama is offering some of the best fall fishing conditions you could ask for. The weather is mild and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to the mid-70s, making it ideal for both the fish and the anglers.

Sunrise today is around 7:00 AM, and sunset will be at about 6:30 PM, giving you a full day to enjoy the lake. Since Lake Guntersville is a freshwater lake, there are no tidal reports to consider, but the current is moving due to recent rains, which is stirring up the fish.

The fish activity has been aggressive, especially with the cooler nights and shorter days. Bass, particularly the larger ones, are feeding actively. Yesterday, anglers reported catching significant numbers of bass, with some trips landing over 30 fish per day. The best five fish caught in some trips weighed over 24 pounds, indicating the presence of some real monsters in the lake.

You can expect to catch a variety of fish sizes, from 14 inches up to 6-pound bass. Crappie fishing has also been excellent, with reports of landing over 30 fish per day, including some sizable ones.

For catching the big fish, frogging and flipping are highly effective techniques. The creek ledges still have several schools of fish out deep, and the shad chasers are on the move. The outside grasslines in 7-8 feet of water are also producing plenty of fish.

Some of the best lures to use include spoons, especially out deep, and soft plastics for targeting fish on the grasslines. If you're after crappie, jigs and minnows are your best bet.

Hot spots include the creek ledges and the outside grasslines. The famous ledges of Lake Guntersville are always a good place to start, especially when the current is moving.

Overall, this fall season is shaping up to be one of the best times to fish at Lake Guntersville, with plenty of active and sizable fish waiting to be caught.
