Lake Fork anglers, today, April 4, 2025, is shaping up to be a fantastic day for fishing! Current water temperatures range from 58 to 66 degrees, and the lake sits 0.32 feet below pool with stained water. With the warming weather, fish activity is picking up across the board, making it a perfect time to hit the water.
Bass fishing is excellent right now, with largemouth bass pulling shallow to prepare for spawning. Smaller males are active along warm, sunlit banks, and the larger females are close to nesting areas. Best results are coming from Texas rigs, chatterbaits, flukes, and wacky-rigged Senkos in 1-3 feet of water. Slow presentations are key for enticing bites. Anglers targeting deeper grass areas have also had success with jerkbaits and lipless crankbaits in crawfish and shad colors.
Crappie fishing is steady, with good numbers of large fish. You can find crappie close to spawning areas, particularly in timbered spots at depths of 6-20 feet. On warmer days, look for fish in shallow waters of 2-4 feet near spawning zones with 62-64 degree surface temperatures. Bridges and deeper cover are holding fish as well, but their location can vary due to hourly changes in wind and temperature. Minnows, hand-tied jigs, and soft plastics are producing consistently.
For bait and tackle, consider using Lake Fork Trophy Lures such as the Live Magic Shad or Live Baby Shad Swimbait. These realistic lures mimic natural prey fish and can attract both bass and crappie effectively. Additionally, bright colors and natural patterns seem to be drawing the most fish.
The weather today is mild with a slight breeze, providing optimal fishing conditions. Sunrise was at 7:03 AM, and sunset will be at 7:42 PM, giving you ample time to take advantage of the bite, which tends to pick up in the late afternoon and evening.
Hot spots to check out include the shallow, sunlit banks along creek channels and key points near spawning flats. Particularly productive areas include timbered zones around Highway 154 and 515 bridges, as well as ledges and roadbeds in deeper water.
Take care to navigate around Lake Fork’s submerged timber and always drain your boats to prevent the spread of zebra mussels. With fish actively moving and conditions aligning just right, this is a prime time to catch trophy largemouth bass and load up on crappie. Tight lines, and good luck out there!
