Good morning, folks, Artificial Lure here, bringing you the Lake Fork, Texas fishing report for Friday, September 5th, 2025.
Sunrise hit the water at 6:59 a.m. today, sunset’s coming in at 7:46 p.m., so there’s a good stretch for early and late action. Weather’s shaping up to be agreeable with a high near 80—mile or two off from the usual early September sizzler—and some scattered clouds. You might dodge a morning sprinkle, but nothing major to keep you off the water. Water temp's running in the mid to upper 80s, and the lake’s sitting a little over 10 inches below full pool, giving us just enough exposed structure to stir up the bite according to Lake Fork area forecasts.
Let’s talk activity—bass fishing is back in that sweet late-summer groove. The early bite’s shallow—right up against that shoreline grass or bream beds in two to five feet. Topwaters are real good; think hollow-body frogs and popping mice, especially if there’s a little chop. Once the morning hustle fades, those bass are pulling just a tad deeper—mid-morning they’re hanging off in five to seven feet around bait-rich flats. This is a perfect time to throw shad-pattern squarebills or chatterbaits, bouncing 'em off wood or scattered grass. Marc Mitchell from Mitchell’s Guide Service says the midday and afternoon bite is mostly offshore—look for them along roadbeds, long points, and channel swings in fifteen to twenty-four feet. Here, deep-diving crankbaits or a good old Carolina rig with a big worm or creature bait is hard to beat.
For bonus action, bream are thick and shallow. Take out the kids, tie on a small grasshopper pattern or a bit of worm under a cork and you’ll put plenty in the bucket. Catfish have been steady as well, showing up consistently on baited lines and near deeper channels, with cut bait and punch bait doing most of the work.
Top lures this week have been:
- Early hours: hollow-body frog, hard poppers, and mouse patterns along grass lines and points
- Moving deeper: shad-color chatterbaits, 2.5 squarebill crankbaits, and Texas-rigged worms on offshore brush
- For roaming fish: deep-diving crankbaits and Carolina rigs with big watermelon or green pumpkin plastics
Live bait seekers—bluegill and shad continue to out-produce for catfish and big bass, especially around creek channel drop-offs.
FishBrain and Bass Fishing Daily both highlight Lake Fork as producing big largemouths right now, with plenty of reports of quality 3-6 pounders and even the occasional double-digit fish coming from secrecy-haunted brushpiles and timber edges in the northern arms.
Best hotspots the past few outings:
- The dam area and west side points near Little Caney
- The mouths of Birch and Mustang creeks, where creek channels swing up close to shallower structure—classic late summer holding spots
Tidal charts don’t directly affect Lake Fork since she’s an inland reservoir, but the big moon window is here, and peak activity is expected to come early and late, so plan your trip accordingly.
Before you hook up the boat, remember to review the local regulations—slot limits and harvest rules keep Lake Fork loaded with trophy potential.
