His father may have preferred he become a dermatologist, but in addition to breaking his parents’ hearts by becoming an Angry Samoan, Gregg Turner also found the time to become a doctor of mathematics, and has taught math for the last few decades before his recent retirement. We discuss his early years writing for Creem and Rolling Stone, his introduction to the ‘punk rock’ world of mathematicians in the late 70s/early 80s, and a whole lot more, including his new book Hallucinations From Hell: Confessions of an Angry Samoan.
