E17 : Why do my colleagues make painful noises during phone call?

Welcome back! We are Just Japanglish hosted by Cliff, a guy from the UK and Yutaro, a guy from Japan. 

Something Cliff noticed when he started working in Japan, and still bothers him even now. (Though gradually doing it himself) Some Japanese people in the workplace make ‘painful’ sounds and noises during phone calls. Further elaborating on this, we will also cover some example phrases to use when talking on the phone in Japanese. We will also share some thoughts on some workplace etiquette that most westerners may find different to their home countries based on one of Cliff’s embarrassing experiences in Japan.
