Children Seeking Advice From Others

It is known that Children would prefer talking to anyone but their parents on personal issues. For generations, children sought the advice of others - primarily from someone older and perceived wiser. This would come in the form of a parent, coach or religious leader. However, many parents are blocking their children from seeking this form of guidance. Is this healthy? Are we getting too much in their way?
