What's the Purpose of Sacrifice?

Why did God implement the offering of sacrifices? After Adam and Eve was beguiled by satan, they were exiled from the Garden of Eden.  All of mankind was separated from God's presence.  God, in His infinite wisdom already had a plan in place for us to return to Him.  Bro.
