In January 2020, the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) initiated a civil lawsuit against the estate of Jeffrey Epstein, alleging that he operated a vast sex trafficking network from his private island, Little St. James, within the territory. The complaint, filed under the Virgin Islands' Criminally Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (CICO), accused Epstein of exploiting the territory's lax oversight to facilitate and conceal his criminal enterprise. The lawsuit also implicated Epstein's co-executors, Darren Indyke and Richard Kahn, asserting that they played active roles in managing the financial and operational aspects of the trafficking scheme.
