Federal prosecutors have determined there is no legal basis to invalidate Jeffrey Epstein’s 2007 non-prosecution agreement (NPA), often referred to as his “sweetheart deal.” The Department of Justice’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) reviewed the handling of the case and concluded that while U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta exercised “poor judgment” in allowing Epstein to avoid federal charges, the agreement itself was negotiated within the legal authority of the office. The review found no evidence of corruption, bribery, or improper influence that would justify overturning or scrubbing the deal.

The DOJ’s position effectively closes the door on efforts to dismantle the NPA, which shielded Epstein and potential co-conspirators from federal prosecution despite overwhelming evidence of sex trafficking. Critics argue this ruling highlights how the justice system bent to protect a wealthy, well-connected predator, while victims were denied their day in court. The decision underscores how Epstein’s legal escape route remains intact even after his death, further cementing the perception that justice was never truly served.
