In July 2023, forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden criticized the Department of Justice's Office of the Inspector General (OIG) report on Jeffrey Epstein's death, labeling its conclusions as "ridiculous" and asserting that it overlooked clear evidence indicative of homicide. Dr. Baden, who observed Epstein's autopsy on behalf of the family, highlighted that the OIG did not consult him during their investigation, despite his direct involvement. He pointed out that Epstein sustained two fractures on the sides of his larynx and one near the Adam's apple—injuries he contends are more consistent with manual strangulation than with suicidal hanging. Additionally, Dr. Baden noted that the ligature marks on Epstein's neck did not match the noose reportedly used, further questioning the suicide determination.
