When transitioning into formal meditation practice—and even throughout daily life—it can be very helpful to acknowledge, recognize, and accept whatever is happening, just as it is. Instead of diving in with intensity and trying to force quick results, as is often the habit in worldly pursuits, a more receptive approach tends to be far more supportive. Rather than struggling against what isn’t present or trying to manufacture an experience, there is wisdom in simply allowing things to unfold as they are.

We can clearly see the benefit of not struggling against what isn’t there, not trying to artificially create an experience. There’s a natural patience that arises when we stop trying to accelerate or manipulate the process. Forcing things can waste energy and effort. That said, we also don’t want to fall into complacency or laziness—it’s about finding balance.

It’s easy to want to rush to the finish line before even starting the race. While that urgency can sometimes feel motivating, it’s ultimately out of sync with reality. It ignores the truth of where I actually am—at the beginning, or simply in the middle of the journey.

Seeing things clearly as they are, and being okay with that, helps ease the heart. It keeps me grounded in the present, rather than projecting myself into some future result or ideal state. However things are, we begin from here. We are where we are—not somewhere else. And that simple recognition, acceptance, and willingness to start from here is incredibly helpful. It allows for steady, patient progress—and, paradoxically, can even open the door to swifter transformation.

But when I lose sight of this, a sense of uneasiness or disorientation tends to set in.
