Its name comes from a Mohegan-Pequot word meaning “long tidal river,” referring to the mighty Connecticut River. For over 10,000 years, Native peoples thrived here, moving with the seasons, crafting tools from stone, and forming vibrant cultures.

From Dutch explorers and English settlers to fierce battles like the Pequot War and pivotal moments in the American Revolution, Connecticut’s story is one of resilience, innovation, and influence.
