Empowering Women in Economics

Following a series of high-profile sexual assault scandals, Evelyn Smith and Anna Opoku-Agyeman speak with hosts Peter Capelli and Iwan Baranky about how to elevate and support women in economics.

Evelyn Smith is a 3rd-year PhD Student in Business Economics at the University of Michigan. Her work focuses on applying machine learning methods to research topics in public finance, including detecting tax evasion and evaluating responses to sin taxes. Prior to her studies at Michigan, Evelyn worked as a research assistant at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C., where she focused on issues in technology and telecommunications policy. She received her Bachelors degree from Georgetown University in 2014.

Anna Opoku-Agyeman is a graduating senior from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Economics. She recently co-founded the Sadie Tanner Collective, an organization that seeks to empower and equip Black women in economics.
