The human need to be recognised

As human beings, we have an intrinsic need for recognition from birth. To start with, it was a way of getting other needs met - i.e. we cried when we were hungry or uncomfortable - we learnt that our cry would send a message to our parents (or our carers) to highlight the fact that we had a need - our carer would then recognise our need. 

As we grow and develop, the need for recognition remains.

In this episode, we look at Transactional Analysis theory to discuss this need that we all have to be recognised; why we need to be recognised; how we get recognition and what can happen when we don't.
